he said: No, he said: "Then bear witness to this with someone else!" Then he said: "Would it please you if they were all equally dutiful to you?" He said: Yes, he said: "Then do not do it." Other expressions have been reported in this story, including: "Fear Allāh and be just among your children." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī (3/134) and Muslim, among others, with the addition: "So my father returned and took back that gift." Some of its expressions have been included in "Ghāyat al-Marām" (272-273) and "al-Irwāʾ" (1547).

- "The best servants of Allāh from this nation are those who fulfill their promises and are good." Narrated by Abū Muḥammad al-Mukhalladī in "al-Fawāʾid" (4/241/2) from Aḥmad ibn Muḥammad ibn al-Ḥajjāj ibn Rushdīn al-Miṣrī: Khālid ibn ʿAbd al-Salām told me, Ibn Wahb informed us, he said: Qurrāh ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān and ʿAbd Allāh ibn Lahīʿah narrated from Yazīd ibn Abī Ḥabīb from Ibn Shihāb from ʿUrwah ibn al-Zubayr from Abū Ḥumayd al-Sāʿidī as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. And there is a story in it. I said: This isnād is acceptable except that there is criticism of Ibn Rushdīn, and his teacher Khālid ibn ʿAbd al-Salām I could not find (1), and more than one has followed him but they did not mention Ibn Lahīʿah in its isnād
