It was recorded by al-Bazzār (1308) and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Ṣaghīr," and I have discussed it in "al-Rawḍ al-Naḍīr" (no. 937). It has a supporting narration from ʿĀʾishah, recorded by Aḥmad (6/268) and al-ʿUqaylī in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ" (432) from Marjīʾ ibn Rajāʾ, from Hishām ibn ʿUrwah, from his father, from her. He said: "Marjīʾ ibn Yaḥyá, Ibn Maʿīn said: 'Weak,' and this is narrated with a different isnād from the path of Ṣāliḥ." I said: This refers to the narration of Aḥmad in "al-Musnad" (6/268-269), where he said: Yaʿqūb narrated to us, saying: My father narrated to us from Ibn Isḥāq, who said: Hishām ibn ʿUrwah narrated to me from her, saying: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) bought a camel or camels from a man of the Bedouins for a wasq of high-quality dates, and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) returned to his house and sought the dates but did not find them. So the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) went out to him and said: "O servant of Allāh! We have bought from you a camel—or camels—for a wasq of high-quality dates, and we sought it but did not find it." The Bedouin said: "Oh, betrayal!" She said: The people rebuked him and said: "May Allāh fight you! Would the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) betray?" The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "Leave him, for the owner of a right has a say." The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) repeated this two or three times, and when he saw that he did not understand, he said to one of his Companions: "Go to Khawlah bint Ḥakīm ibn Umayyah and say to her: The Messenger of Allāh says to you: If you have a wasq of high-quality dates, lend it to us until we can repay you, if Allāh wills..
