the ankles, and if you refuse, then Allāh does not love every arrogant boaster." He said: "The isnād is authentic." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him, and it is as they said. There is a supporting mursal ḥadīth from the narration of Qatādah: that a man greeted the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) saying: "Upon you be peace, O Messenger of Allāh!" The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) disliked that and said: "This is the greeting of the dead." It was recorded by Ibn Abī Shaybah in "al-Muṣannaf" (8/617) with an authentic isnād from him.
"Indeed, it is your duty to be just among your children, just as it is their duty to be dutiful to you." It was recorded by al-Ṭayālisī (p. 107, no. 789): Shuʿbah narrated to us from Mujālid from al-Shaʿbī from al-Nuʿmān ibn Bashīr: that his father gave him a gift, and he wanted the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) to witness it, so he said: "Have you given all your children a gift like you gave him?" He replied: No, the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. Its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of al-Bukhārī and Muslim, except for Mujālid, who is Ibn Saʿīd and is not strong, and he changed in his later years. Muslim narrated from him in conjunction, but he has been followed in the meaning of this ḥadīth. It was narrated by Muslim (5/66) and al-Bukhārī in "al-Adab al-Mufrad" (16) and Ibn Mājah (2/67) and Aḥmad (4/269 and 270) from Dāwūd ibn Abī Hind from al-Shaʿbī with it in the wording: My father took me to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and said: O Messenger of Allāh! Bear witness that I have given al-Nuʿmān such and such from my wealth. He said: "Have you given all your children like you have given al-Nuʿmān?"
