It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Awsaṭ" (1/174/2/3233) and through his route by al-Ḍiyāʾ al-Maqdisī in "al-Mukhtārah" (1/484): Bakr ibn Sahl narrated to us, saying: Mahdī ibn Jaʿfar al-Ramlī narrated to us. Al-Ṭabarānī said: "No one narrated it from Isḥāq ibn ʿAbd Allāh except ʿAbd al-Aʿlá ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Furwah, and al-Walīd was unique in narrating it." I say: He is trustworthy, from the narrators of the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhārī and Muslim], but there is a concern about his tadlīs al-taswiyah. However, he explicitly stated hearing in the entire chain in the narration of al-ʿAbbās al-Dimashqī mentioned earlier, so I do not know if that is preserved. Naming al-Ramlī as the teacher of al-Walīd (ʿAbd al-Aʿlá ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Furwah) is more likely to me than al-ʿAbbās naming him as (ʿĪsá ibn ʿAbd al-Aʿlá ibn Abī Furwah), because he is known for narrating from Isḥāq ibn ʿAbd Allāh, and from him al-Walīd ibn Muslim, and perhaps for this reason al-Ḍiyāʾ included it in "al-Mukhtārah." However, Bakr ibn Sahl was mentioned by al-Dhahabī in "al-Ḍuʿafāʾ," and he said: "Average, al-Nasāʾī considered him weak." This is a summary of his statement in "al-Mīzān": "People narrated from him, and his condition is moderate, al-Nasāʾī said: weak." I say: If he is ʿĪsá, he is unknown. If he is ʿAbd al-Aʿlá, he is trustworthy, and in the first case, if the ḥadīth does not gain strength, it does not harm it, and in the latter, the isnād is authentic if it is free from the tadlīs of al-Walīd ibn Muslim.
