a man came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and said: I love you. He said: So he mentioned it. I said: And this isnād is good; its men are trustworthy and well-known except for Bakr ibn Salīm. Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" (8/149), and five trustworthy narrators have reported from him, so he is truthful as stated in "al-Kāshif," and al-Haythamī declared him trustworthy after the ḥadīth (10/274): "It was narrated by al-Bazzār, and its men are the men of the Ṣaḥīḥ except for Bakr ibn Salīm, and he is trustworthy." I said: And Abū Ṭawālah's name is ʿAbdullāh ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Muʿammar ibn Ḥazm al-Anṣārī. And there is a corroborating narration from the ḥadīth of Abū Dharr (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu): that he came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and said: I love you, O family of the house. The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to him: By Allāh? He said: By Allāh. He said: "Then prepare for poverty, for poverty comes faster to those who love us than a flood from the top of a hill to its bottom." It was narrated by al-Ḥākim (4/331) who said: "Authentic according to the conditions of al-Shaykhayn." And al-Dhahabī agreed with him. And I say it is only authentic, for it is from the route of Muḥammad ibn Ghālib: ʿAffān narrated to us... etc., for Ghālib is not among the men of al-Shaykhayn, only ʿAffān is, but he is not one of their shaykhs, and they narrate from him through an intermediary. And the ḥadīth has a corroborating narration from the ḥadīth of ʿAbdullāh ibn Mughaffal, which I had extracted in "al-Ḍaʿīfah" (1681) before encountering these two ḥadīths, and the credit for that goes to one of the students
