and this is more appropriate as the ḥāfiẓ said, so refer to it. I said: Perhaps the error in this anomalous addition is from Saʿīd ibn ʿUbayd Allāh al-Thaqafī, as some have criticized his memory, and the ḥāfiẓ himself said in "al-Taqrīb": "Truthful, but he might err." There is another chain for the ḥadīth from the narration of Ḥammād ibn Salamah who said: Abū ʿImrān al-Jawnī informed me from ʿAlqamah ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Muzanī from Maʿqil ibn Yasār that ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb consulted al-Hurmuzān regarding Fāris, Iṣbahān, and Azerbaijan, the ḥadīth in its entirety with some sentences abbreviated. It was recorded by Ibn Abī Shaybah (13/8-13). I said: Its isnād is good, its narrators are those of the authentic collections except for ʿAlqamah ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Muzanī, and he is trustworthy." The ḥāfiẓ said in "Muqaddimah al-Fatḥ" (p. 405): "Its chain is strong." Al-Haythamī attributed it in "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid" (6/215-217) to al-Ṭabarānī, and said: "Its narrators are those of the authentic collections except for ʿAlqamah ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Muzanī, and he is trustworthy." Aḥmad and others narrated from it the ḥadīth of the chapter, and it is included in "Ṣaḥīḥ Abī Dāwūd" (2385).
