what causes a man to wish for a presence that Allāh has kept hidden from him, not knowing how he would have been if he had witnessed it?! By Allāh, there were people present with the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) whom Allāh cast on their noses into Hellfire, for they neither responded to him nor believed him. Should you not praise Allāh that He brought you forth knowing only your Lord, believing in what your Prophet brought, and that you have been spared the trial through others? By Allāh, Allāh sent the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)... etc. I said: This isnād is authentic, its men are trustworthy, the men of Muslim except for Yaʿmur ibn Bishr, who is al-Marwazī. Al-Khaṭīb said in "Tārīkh Baghdād" (14/357): "One of the senior companions of ʿAbd Allāh ibn al-Mubārak, Aḥmad said: I do not see anything wrong with him. ʿAlī ibn al-Madīnī said: Trustworthy. Abū Rajāʾ Muḥammad ibn Ḥamdawayh said: 'Among the trustworthy and pious people of Marw.' Al-Dāraquṭnī said: Trustworthy, trustworthy." Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" (9/291). I said: It seems that al-Haythamī missed what we mentioned of the verified reports about this Yaʿmur, as he said in another ḥadīth of his (5/122): "Aḥmad narrated it from his shaykh Yaʿmur ibn Bishr, and it is said: All of Aḥmad's shaykhs are trustworthy"! He was followed by Bishr ibn Muḥammad in al-Bukhārī's "al-Adab al-Mufrad" (87), and Ḥibbān ibn Mūsá in Ibn Ḥibbān (1684 - Mawārid) who both said: ʿAbd Allāh narrated it to us. Al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Kathīr said in "Tafsīr Sūrat al-Furqān" after attributing it to Aḥmad with his isnād: "This isnād is authentic, and they did not include it." (Note): The distinction mentioned in this ḥadīth has a basis in "Ṣaḥīḥ al-Bukhārī" (no. 7281) from the ḥadīth of Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh who said:
ما يحمل الرجل أن يتمنى محضرا غيبه الله عنه، لا يدري لو شهده كيف كان يكون فيه؟! والله لقد حضر رسول الله ﷺ أقوام أكبهم الله على مناخرهم في جهنم، لم يجيبوه ولم يصدقوه، أولا تحمدون الله إذ أخرجكم لا تعرفون إلا ربكم، مصدقين لما جاء به نبيكم، قد كفيتم البلاء بغيركم؟ والله لقد بعث الله النبي ﷺ.. إلخ. قلت: وهذا إسناد صحيح رجاله ثقات رجال مسلم غير يعمر بن بشر، وهو المروزي، قال الخطيب في "تاريخ بغداد" (١٤ / ٣٥٧): "من كبار أصحاب عبد الله بن المبارك، قال أحمد: ما أرى كان به بأس. وقال علي بن المديني: ثقة. وقال أبو رجاء محمد بن حمدويه: "من ثقات أهل مرو ومتقيهم". وقال الدارقطني: ثقة ثقة". وذكرها ابن حبان في "الثقات" (٩ / ٢٩١). قلت: كأن الهيثمي فاته ما ذكرناه من النقول الموثقة ليعمر هذا، فقال في حديث آخر له (٥ / ١٢٢): "رواه أحمد عن شيخه يعمر بن بشر، ويقال: مشايخ أحمد كلهم ثقات"! وقد تابعه بشر بن محمد عند البخاري في "الأدب المفرد" (٨٧)، وحبان بن موسى عند ابن حبان (١٦٨٤- موارد) قالا: أنبأنا عبد الله به. وقال الحافظ ابن كثير في "تفسير سورة الفرقان" بعد أن عزاه لأحمد بسنده: "وهذا إسناد صحيح، ولم يخرجوه". (تنبيه): التفريق المذكور في هذا الحديث له أصل في "صحيح البخاري" (رقم ٧٢٨١) من حديث جابر بن عبد الله قال:
