- "Among the signs (in another narration: conditions) of the Hour is that the wicked will be elevated and the good will be lowered, speech will be abundant, and actions will be scarce, and the people will read the 'mathnāh', and none among them will deny it. It was said: What is the 'mathnāh'? He said: What is written besides the Book of Allāh." This is from the ḥadīth of ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu), narrated from him by ʿAmr ibn Qays al-Kindī. A group narrated it from him; some raised it [to the Prophet] and some stopped at him, but it is considered raised because it is not said from mere opinion. They are: Firstly, Yaḥyā ibn Ḥamzah: ʿAmr ibn Qays al-Kindī told me, saying: I was with Abū al-Fawāris when I was a young man, and I saw people gathered around a man. I asked: Who is this? They said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ. I heard him narrating from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) that he said: and he mentioned it. It was recorded by al-Ḥākim (4/554) and mentioned by al-Haythamī in "al-Majmaʿ" (7/326) as raised from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr, and he said: "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī, and its men are the men of the authentic [collections]." I say: Perhaps it is with al-Ṭabarānī through another route other than this of al-Kindī, otherwise al-Haythamī is mistaken in including it among the (men of the authentic collections)! Secondly, al-Awzāʿī from ʿAmr ibn Qays al-Sukūnī said: I went out with my father in the delegation to Muʿāwiyah, and I heard a man narrating to the people, saying: "Indeed, among the signs of the Hour..." the ḥadīth
