he said: I narrated this ḥadīth to a group of people, among whom was Ismāʿīl ibn ʿUbayd Allāh, who said: I was with you in that gathering, do you know who the man was? I said: No, he said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr. It was also recorded by al-Ḥākim and Ibn ʿAsākir in "Tārīkh Dimashq" (13/593 - al-Madīnah), and al-Ḥākim said: "The isnād is authentic." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. Thirdly: Muʿāwiyah ibn Ṣāliḥ said: ʿAmr ibn Qays al-Kindī informed me, saying: I heard ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ say: and he mentioned it as a mawqūf report with the wording: ".. every book except the Book of Allāh." It was recorded by Ibn Abī Shaybah in "al-Muṣannaf" (15/165/19395): Zayd ibn al-Ḥabbāb said: Muʿāwiyah ibn Ṣāliḥ informed us... Fourthly: Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh from ʿAmr ibn Qays up to his saying: "and the deeds will be stored." It was recorded in full by Abū ʿAmr al-Dānī in "al-Fitan" (folio 53/1-2) and al-Bayhaqī in "al-Shuʿab" (4/306/5199). Fifthly: Bishr: ʿAmr ibn Qays narrated to me from him. It was recorded by Ibn ʿAsākir. (Benefit): This ḥadīth is among the signs of his prophethood (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), for everything in it of the news has come true, especially what relates to (al-Muthannā), which is everything written except the Book of Allāh as explained by the narrator, and what relates to it from the prophetic ḥadīths and the traditions of the predecessors. It is as if what is meant by (al-Muthannā) are the sectarian books imposed on the followers
