- "O Ṣafiyyah, your father incited the Arabs against me and did such and such," he apologized to her. It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (24/67/177): Abū Zurʿah ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAmr al-Dimashqī narrated to us, ʿAffān narrated to us, Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿUmar from Nāfiʿ from Ibn ʿUmar who said: Ṣafiyyah had a green mark in her eye, so the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to her, "What is this green mark in your eye?" She said: I told my husband, "I saw in a dream that a moon fell into my lap," so he slapped me and said, "Do you desire the king of Yathrib?!" She said: And there was nothing more hateful to me than the Messenger of Allāh, who killed my father and husband, but he continued to apologize to me, and she said: until that feeling left my heart. I say: This isnād is authentic; all its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of Muslim, except for Abū Zurʿah al-Dimashqī, who is a reliable ḥāfiẓ. And al-Haythamī said in "al-Majmaʿ" (9/251): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī, and its narrators are the narrators of the authentic collections." And it was also narrated by Abū Yaʿlá in "his Musnad" (4/1695-1697) through two other chains from Ṣafiyyah, in a shortened form without her story with her husband and the dream.
