"so I mentioned that to her mother, who slapped her face and said:..." the ḥadīth. I said: What is in "al-Sīrah" is the preserved version as it matches the ḥadīth of the chapter, and it is one of the benefits that escaped the attention of al-Ḥāfiẓ in "al-Iṣābah" and before him al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Kathīr in "al-Sīrah" (3/373-374).

"Allāh has enjoined upon His servants five prayers," [he said it three times], so the man swore [by Allāh] not to add anything to it nor to decrease anything from it. The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: If he is truthful, he will surely enter Paradise. It was narrated by al-Nasāʾī (1/228-229 - al-Qalam) and Ibn Ḥibbān (251) with the second addition being his, and Aḥmad (3/267) with the first addition being his, all from the route of Nūḥ ibn Qays from Khālid ibn Qays from Qatādah from Anas who said: A man asked the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and said: O Messenger of Allāh! How many prayers has Allāh enjoined upon His servants? He said: and mentioned it... He said: O Messenger of Allāh, is there anything before them or after them? He said: and mentioned it with the first addition, so the man swore... I said: And this isnād is authentic according to the conditions of Muslim. And the ḥadīth has a corroborating narration from Ṭalḥah ibn ʿUbayd Allāh that is more complete. It was narrated by the two Shaykhs and others, and it is included in "Ṣaḥīḥ Abī Dāwūd" (414). (Note): In a narration by Muslim and al-Nasāʾī, the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "He has succeeded, by his father, if he is truthful..." He added: "by his father," which is anomalous as I have verified in "al-Ḍaʿīfah" (4992).
