and Abū al-Samaḥ corroborated him according to Aḥmad (4/156) and through the path of Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr, and al-Ṭabarānī (818), and its wording differs from the ḥadīth of the translation, and for that reason, I included it in "al-Ḍaʿīfah" (1779). And al-Layth—who is Ibn Saʿd—according to al-Ṭabarānī (815) and Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr. And Mālik ibn al-Khayr al-Ziyādī according to al-Ṭabarānī (817). These corroborations from them for Ibn Lahīʿah confirm that he preserved this ḥadīth, so all praise is due to Allāh. (Benefit): Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr titled this ḥadīth by saying: "Chapter on those who interpret the Qurʾān or ponder it while ignorant of the sunnah." Then he said under it: "All the people of innovation unanimously turned away from the sunnah and interpreted the Book contrary to what the sunnah clarified, so they went astray and led others astray. We seek refuge in Allāh from failure and ask Him for success and protection." I say: And among their misguidance is their neglect of His saying, exalted is He, in His Book, directing His Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): * "And We revealed to you the message that you may make clear to the people what was sent down to them" *. Then, al-Suyūṭī attributed the ḥadīth in "al-Jāmiʿ al-Kabīr" to (Ḥam, Hib, and Abū Naṣr al-Sijzī in "al-Ibānah" from ʿUqbah ibn ʿĀmir). And he did not include it in "al-Jāmiʿ al-Ṣaghīr". (Note): Some have made errors regarding this ḥadīth that must be clarified: al-Haythamī weakened it in "Majmaʿ al-Zawāʾid" by saying (8/104-105): "Aḥmad narrated it, and in it is Ibn Lahīʿah who is weak, and the rest of its men are trustworthy."
