among the two shaykhs and from the senior shaykhs of al-Bukhārī, and they mentioned that he is among the ʿAbādilah who narrated from Ibn Lahīʿah before his books were burned and that his ḥadīth is authentic in what they narrated from him. He narrated this with two isnāds: the first from Abū Qabīl from ʿUqbah. The other from Yazīd ibn Abī Ḥabīb from Abū al-Khayr from ʿUqbah. This isnād is authentic because above Ibn Lahīʿah are two reliable narrators from the two shaykhs as well, and Abū al-Khayr's name is Marthad ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Yaznī. As for his first isnād, it is ḥasan because Abū Qabīl, whose name is Ḥiyyī ibn Hānī al-Maʿāfirī, was deemed reliable by a group including Aḥmad, while some weakened him, and al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Taqrīb": "truthful but makes mistakes." Thus, his ḥadīth is at least ḥasan, and Allāh knows best. The ḥadīth was recorded by al-Fasawī in "al-Tārīkh" (2/507), Abū Yaʿlá in "al-Musnad" (2/284, no. 1746), al-Harawī in "Dhamm al-Kalām" (2/28/1), and Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr in "Jāmiʿ Bayān al-ʿIlm" (2/193), all from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yazīd with it, except that al-Harawī added in the isnād between Ibn Lahīʿah and Abū Qabīl: ʿUqbah al-Ḥaḍramī, which is an anomalous addition because the group explicitly stated in their narrations that Ibn Lahīʿah heard this ḥadīth from Abū Qabīl, and even if it were correct, it would not harm because this ʿUqbah—who is Ibn Muslim al-Tujībī—is reliable without dispute.
