I said: He is a reliable and proficient scholar among the teachers of Muslim. However, his teacher ʿAtāb ibn Ḥarb Abū Bishr was deemed weak, and Ibn Ḥibbān contradicted himself regarding him; see "al-Lisān." Above him are the narrators of Muslim, despite the weakness in Abū ʿĀmir al-Khazzāz, whose name is Ṣāliḥ ibn Rustam. The ḥadīth was attributed by al-Haythamī in "al-Majmaʿ" (10/137) to al-Ṭabarānī's "al-Awsaṭ," and he did not comment on it. It may have been omitted by the scribe or printer, and al-Shawkānī followed him in "Tuhfat al-Dhākirīn" (p. 195). The ḥadīth has two supporting narrations from Ibn ʿAbbās and Asmāʾ bint ʿUmays. 1 - As for the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿAbbās, it is narrated by ʿUbayd Allāh ibn Muḥammad al-Taymī: Ṣāliḥ ibn ʿAbd Allāh Abū Yaḥyá narrated to us from ʿAmr ibn Mālik al-Nakrī from Abū al-Jawzāʾ from Ibn ʿAbbās: that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) took hold of the doorposts while we were in the house and said: "O Banū ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, is there anyone among you who is not from you?" They said: "A son of our sister." He said: "The son of a people’s sister is one of them." Then he said: "O Banū ʿAbd al-Muṭṭalib, when distress, hardship, or adversity befalls you, say: Allāh, Allāh is our Lord, He has no partner." It was recorded by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Kabīr" (12/170/12788), "al-Awsaṭ" (2/235/1/8639), and "al-Duʿāʾ" (117/2) and he said: "No one narrated it from Abū al-Jawzāʾ except ʿAmr ibn Mālik, and no one from ʿAmr except Ṣāliḥ ibn ʿAbd Allāh, and Ibn Abī ʿĀʾishah was unique in narrating it." I said: He is reliable, as are those above him except for Ṣāliḥ ibn ʿAbd Allāh, as it appears in the two mentioned sources and in "al-Mīzān":
