and secondly, that Muslim recorded it through ʿAbd al-Razzāq and others, so attributing it to him would have been more appropriate. and thirdly, al-Bukhārī does not include: "so make it lawful for us"! There is another chain of narration, narrated by Muʿādh ibn Hishām from his father, from Qatādah, from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, from Abū Hurayrah, from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam): "that a prophet from among the prophets went on an expedition with his companions..." the ḥadīth in its entirety, and at the end: "Indeed, Allāh provided us with the spoils of war as a mercy He bestowed upon us, and as a relief He lightened for us, due to His knowledge of our weakness." It was recorded in full by Ibn Ḥibbān in "Ṣaḥīḥ" (7/149/4787) and likewise by al-Nasāʾī in "al-Kubrā" (5/8878 and 6/352/11208). I say: This isnād is authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs. Its full wording and more detailed referencing have been mentioned earlier in the first volume (number 202).
