that he should seek refuge at bedtime with the perfect words of Allāh from His anger, from the evil of His servants, from the whispers of the devils, and from their presence. It was recorded by Ibn al-Sunnī in "ʿAmal al-Yawm wa-al-Laylah" (no. 746). It was also narrated by Aḥmad (4/57), al-Bayhaqī in "al-Asmāʾ" (p. 185), as well as Ibn Abī Shaybah in "al-Muṣannaf" (10/362-363), and Ibn ʿAbd al-Barr in "al-Tamhīd" (24/109) through the route of Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd from Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyá ibn Ḥabān, except that he said: from al-Walīd ibn al-Walīd who said: O Messenger of Allāh! I feel loneliness. He said: When you take to your bed, say: and he mentioned it. And he added at the end: "for it will not harm, and it is likely that it will not come near you." This differs from the narration of Ayyūb ibn Mūsá because he said: "al-Walīd ibn al-Walīd," and it is more authentic, as he is the brother of Khālid ibn al-Walīd. The men of its isnād are trustworthy, the men of the two Shaykhs, but it is disconnected. Al-Mundhirī said in "al-Targhīb" (2/263): "And Muḥammad did not hear from al-Walīd." Similarly, al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Iṣābah," and his wording is: "and it is disconnected, because Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyá did not meet him." This is the meaning of al-Bayhaqī's statement following it: "This is mursal." (Note): Then al-Ḥāfiẓ said following his previous statement: "And Abū Dāwūd recorded it from the narration of Ibn Isḥāq from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb from his father from."
