he said: ʿAbdullāh ibn Saʿd al-Madanī informed us, saying: Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir informed us, saying: Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf narrated to me from Abū Saʿīd al-Khudrī, who said: I saw in a dream as if I were under a tree, and it was as if the tree was reciting * (Ṣād) *: when it reached the verse of prostration, it prostrated, and said in its prostration: "O Allāh, write for me a reward for this, remove a sin from me because of it, grant me gratitude for it, and accept it from me as You accepted the prostration of Your servant Dāwūd." When I woke up, I went to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and informed him of that. He asked: Did you prostrate, O Abū Saʿīd? I said: No. He said: (and mentioned it), then the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ recited Sūrah * (Ṣād) * until he reached the verse of prostration, and in his prostration he said what the tree had said in its prostration. al-Ṭabarānī said afterward—and the context is his: "It is not narrated from Abū Saʿīd except through this isnād, and Yāmān ibn Naṣr is the only one who narrated it." I said: al-Haythamī criticized it by saying (2/285): "al-Dhahabī said: Unknown." I said: He follows Ibn Abī Ḥātim in this (4/2/311) from his father. However, al-Ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Lisān": "Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in 'al-Thiqāt' and said: al-Kaʿbī, from the people of Basra, narrates from a shaykh from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir. Yaʿqūb ibn Sufyān narrated from him. Ibn Abī Ḥātim mentioned among those who narrated from him Muḥammad ibn Marzūq and al-Jarrāḥ ibn Malīḥ." I said: Ibn Abī Ḥātim does not mention this al-Jarrāḥ. And Allāh knows best. ʿAmr ibn ʿAlī narrated this ḥadīth from him in a very abbreviated form in "Tārīkh al-Bukhārī" (1/1/147)
