the Quran, wherein the heart is described with faith, tranquility, and soundness, as well as with sin, disease, sealing, deviation, and hardness, among other attributes that refute the claim that the heart has no function other than the physical function of pumping blood. So I ask Allāh, the Exalted, to purify our hearts from disease and deviation, and from following the ignorance of the ignorant among the disbelievers and others.
- "I have been commanded to change the names of these two, so he named them Ḥasan and Ḥusayn. He said this when they were born, and ʿAlī had named them Ḥamzah and Jaʿfar." It was recorded by Aḥmad in "al-Musnad" (1/159) and in "Faḍāʾil al-Ṣaḥābah" (2/712/1219), and by Abū Yaʿlá in "Musnad" (1/147), and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (no. 2780, vol. 1), and al-Ḥākim (4/277) through various chains from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAmr from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn ʿAqīl from Muḥammad ibn ʿAlī from ʿAlī who said: When al-Ḥasan was born, he named him Ḥamzah, and when al-Ḥusayn was born, he named him after his uncle (Jaʿfar). He said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) called me and said: He mentioned it, and said after saying: (these two): I said: Allāh and His Messenger know best." Al-Ḥākim said: "The isnād is authentic." Al-Dhahabī refuted it by saying: "I said: Abū Ḥātim said: al-ʿAlāʾ is rejected in ḥadīth." I said: He is the narrator of the ḥadīth from ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAmr according to al-Ḥākim, but he has been corroborated by others as I indicated by saying: "through various chains," so the isnād is ḥasan, its men are trustworthy, and there is some criticism of Ibn ʿAqīl that does not harm, and thus al-Haythamī said (8/52):
