Hārūn narrated to us, Baḥr al-Saqāʾ narrated from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār from Sālim from Ibn ʿUmar who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it, and said: "No one narrated it from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār except Baḥr al-Saqāʾ, and it was solely transmitted by Yazīd ibn Hārūn." I said: He is trustworthy among the men of the two Shaykhs [al-Bukhārī and Muslim], and likewise those above him, except for Baḥr al-Saqāʾ, who is weak as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb." However, ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn Khallād al-Wāsiṭī, I did not find anyone who documented him, except that Aslam al-Wāsiṭī, known as (Baḥshal), narrated several ḥadīths from him in his book "Tārīkh Wāsiṭ" (p. 72, 119, 213) and referred to him as Abū Umayyah, and narrated from him elsewhere (p. 152) through ʿAbd Allāh ibn Abī Dāwūd al-Sijistānī: he said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Muḥammad ibn Khallād Abū Umayyah narrated to me... and he mentioned a report. He did not mention any criticism or endorsement about him, as is his habit, so he is unknown in terms of reliability. Then I saw him in "Thiqāt Ibn Ḥibbān" (8/386). Furthermore, what al-Ṭabarānī mentioned that Baḥr al-Saqāʾ was the sole narrator from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār is contradicted by what he himself produced in "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" (3/194/2/1): he said: al-Ḥasan ibn ʿAlī al-Fasawī narrated to us, Saʿīd ibn Sulaymān narrated to us: Abū al-Rabīʿ al-Sammān informed us from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār with rearrangement, and his wording: "The food of two suffices four, and the food of four suffices eight, so gather upon it and do not disperse from it." Yes, Abū al-Rabīʿ al-Sammān—whose name is Ashʿath ibn Saʿīd al-Baṣrī—is weak like Baḥr al-Saqāʾ or even more so, but the ḥadīth itself is established, as the first part has been narrated in earlier ḥadīths, some of which are numbered (664 and 895), and the rest is in "Ṣaḥīḥ Muslim" and others from the ḥadīth of Jābir.
