I said: O Prophet of Allāh! Was Adam a prophet? He said: Yes, a prophet who was spoken to, Allāh created him with His hand, then breathed into him of His spirit, then said to him: O Adam, before. He said: I said: O Messenger of Allāh! How many prophets were there in total? He said: One hundred and twenty-four thousand, of whom the messengers were three hundred and fifteen, a great multitude. It was recorded by Aḥmad (5/265). And ʿAlī ibn Yazīd, who is al-Alhānī, is weak. And Maʿān ibn Rafāʿah is lenient in ḥadīth as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb," but it seems he was not alone in this, for al-Haythamī said in "al-Majmaʿ" (1/159): "It was narrated by Aḥmad and al-Ṭabarānī in 'al-Kabīr,' and it revolves around ʿAlī ibn Yazīd who is weak." Furthermore, al-Ṭabarānī added in the ḥadīth of the translation as previously mentioned: "He said: How many generations were there between Noah and Abraham? He said: Ten generations." And al-Haythamī said (8/210): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī, and its men are the men of the authentic collections except for Aḥmad ibn Khalīd, who is trustworthy." And there is a corroborating report for this addition from the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah in a marfūʿ form with the wording: "There were ten generations between Adam and Noah, and ten generations between Noah and Abraham, may Allāh's blessings be upon them."
