ʿAbd al-Karīm ibn al-Haytham al-Dayrʿāqūlī: Abū Tawbah narrated to us—meaning al-Rabīʿ ibn Nāfiʿ: Muʿāwiyah ibn Salām narrated to us from Zayd ibn Salām that he heard Abū Salām say: Abū Umāmah narrated to me: "that a man said: O Messenger of Allāh! Was Adam a prophet? He said: Yes, he was spoken to. He said: How long was there between him and Noah? He said: Ten centuries. He said: O Messenger of Allāh! How many were the messengers? He said: Three hundred and fifteen." I said: And this isnād is authentic, all its narrators are trustworthy men of Muslim except for al-Dayrʿāqūlī, and he is a reliable authority as al-Khaṭīb said in "Tārīkh" (11/78), and likewise Ibn Ḥibbān said in "al-Thiqāt" (8/423) and he was relied upon by al-Samʿānī in "al-Ansāb," and al-Dhahabī in "al-Siyar" (13/335-336). The ḥadīth was also extracted by Ibn Ḥibbān in "Ṣaḥīḥ" (2085 - Mawārid) and Ibn Mandah in "al-Tawḥīd" (q 104/2) and through his route by Ibn ʿAsākir in "Tārīkh Dimashq" (2/325/2) and al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Awsaṭ" (1/24/2/398 - my numbering) and likewise in "al-Kabīr" (8/139-140) and al-Ḥākim (2/262) and he said: "Authentic according to the conditions of Muslim." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. And likewise said Ibn ʿUrwah al-Ḥanbalī in "al-Kawākib al-Darārī" (6/212/1) and he attributed it only to Ibn Ḥibbān, and Ibn Mandah said after it: "This isnād is authentic according to the criteria of Muslim and the group except for al-Bukhārī. And it was narrated from the ḥadīth of al-Qāsim Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān and others from Abū Umāmah and Abū Dharr with isnāds that have some discussion." I said: The ḥadīth of al-Qāsim is narrated by Muʿān ibn Rifāʿah: ʿAlī ibn Yazīd narrated to me from him from Abū Umāmah in an extended form, and in it: "He said: I said: O Prophet of Allāh! Which of the prophets was first? He said: Adam (peace be upon him). He said:
