Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyá ibn Maimūn - in Basra - said: ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ibn ʿAṭāʾ narrated to us, saying: Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr narrated to us from Abū Salamah from Abū Hurayrah from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) something similar. I said: All of its narrators are trustworthy and well-known, and their ḥadīth is good, except for this Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyá, for whom I did not find a biography. But he was followed by Ibrāhīm ibn Yaʿqūb al-Jawzjānī: ʿAbd al-Wahhāb ibn ʿAṭāʾ narrated to us with it. Ibn Ḥibbān included it in his "Ṣaḥīḥ" (no. 2494 - al-Mawārid). Then I saw that al-Haythamī (10/308) had mentioned the ḥadīth from the mursal of al-Ḥasan and the musnad of Abū Hurayrah, then said: "Both were narrated by al-Bazzār from his teacher Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyá ibn Maimūn, whom I did not know, and the rest of the narrators of the mursal are the narrators of the 'Ṣaḥīḥ', as well as the narrators of the musnad, except for Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr ibn ʿAlqamah, whose ḥadīth is good." It is with al-Bazzār (4/74/3232 and 3233 - Kashf al-Astār). And al-Bayhaqī included it in "Shuʿab al-Īmān" (1/482-483), through the route of Abū Dāwūd: Muḥammad ibn Yaḥyá ibn Maimūn al-ʿAtakī narrated to us, Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd al-Wahhāb narrated with it. I said: And Abū Dāwūd is (al-Sijistānī), the author of "al-Sunan," so this Ibn Maimūn has three narrators from him who are reliable: Abū Dāwūd, Ibn Ṣāʿid, and al-Bazzār. And someone of this standing cannot be unknown, and his status is honesty, if Allāh wills, especially since he was followed by al-Jawzjānī - who is a trustworthy ḥāfiẓ - as narrated by Ibn Ḥibbān as mentioned earlier, and al-Mundhirī attributed it to him alone in "al-Targhīb" (4/138) and indicated its strengthening.
