When the treasures of Persia and Rome are opened for you, what kind of people will you be? ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn ʿAwf said: We will say as Allāh has commanded us. He (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: Or something else, you will compete with each other, then envy each other, then turn away from each other, then hate each other, or something like that, then you will go to the dwellings of the emigrants and make some of them rulers over others. It was recorded by Muslim (8/212-213) and Ibn Mājah (2/481-482) with the addition being his, and the context is from Muslim: ʿUmar ibn Sawād al-ʿĀmirī narrated to us: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Wahb informed us: ʿAmr ibn al-Ḥārith informed me that Bakr ibn Sawādah narrated to him that Yazīd ibn Rabāḥ (he is Abū Farās, the freedman of ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ) narrated to him from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr ibn al-ʿĀṣ from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) that he said: and he mentioned it. It was also recorded by al-Fasawī in "al-Tārīkh" (2/514) through two other shaykhs who said: Ibn Wahb narrated it to us. And it includes the addition.

Allāh says: By My might, I will not combine two fears for My servant nor will I combine two safeties for him. If he feels safe from Me in this world, I will make him fearful on the Day of Resurrection, and if he fears Me in this world, I will make him safe on the Day of Resurrection.
