that Allāh surrounded the wall of Paradise with bricks of gold and bricks of silver, then He split rivers in it, and planted trees in it. When the angels saw its beauty, they said: "Blessed are you, dwellings of the kings." It was recorded by al-Bayhaqī and others, but the version where it is stopped [not attributed to the Prophet] is the more authentic and well-known. And Allāh knows best. I say: This was recorded by al-Bayhaqī in "al-Baʿth" (p. 54 - Islamic University microfilm) through the route of Muḥammad ibn Yūnus: Sahl ibn Bakār narrated to us, Wahīb ibn Khālid narrated it. And Muḥammad ibn Yūnus - who is al-Kudamī - is accused of fabricating ḥadīth, so one should not rejoice in what he narrates as corroboration. It was also recorded by Abū Nuʿaym in "Ṣifat al-Jannah" (1/173/140) through another route from ʿAdī ibn al-Faḍl, attributed to the Prophet. Then I saw that the scholar Ibn al-Qayyim mentioned in "Ḥādī al-Arwāḥ" (2/40) the isnād of al-Bazzār as stopped, as Ibn Kathīr mentioned, and he said after weakening ʿAdī ibn al-Faḍl: "And the ḥadīth is authentic as stopped." And Allāh knows best. The ḥadīth has been narrated through other routes attributed to the Prophet, both in extended and abbreviated forms, without the angels saying: "Blessed are you, dwellings of the kings." No people abandon jihād except that Allāh envelops them with punishment.
