and al-Aṣbahānī in "al-Targhīb" (p. 223 - al-Jāmiʿah) through the chain of Mūsá ibn Khalaf: narrated to us by Abān from ʿAṭāʾ from Ibn ʿUmar (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) as a marfūʿ ḥadīth, and al-Aṣbahānī said: "Abān is Ibn Bashīr al-Maktab." I said: He is unknown as Ibn Abī Ḥātim stated, and Ibn Ḥibbān mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" (6/68), and a group narrated from him as in "Taysīr al-Intifāʿ." His ḥadīth is strengthened by the narration of ʿAbd al-Salām from Layth from Nāfiʿ from Ibn ʿUmar who said: "There was a time—or he said: a period—when no one was more entitled to his dinar and dirham than his Muslim brother. Then now the world and the dirham are more beloved to one of us than his Muslim brother. I heard the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: ... and he mentioned it." Narrated by al-Bukhārī in "al-Adab al-Mufrad" (111). I said: Its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of the two Shaykhs, except for Layth, who is Ibn Abī Sulaym according to the more correct opinion, as Layth ibn Saʿd, the reliable authority, also narrated from Nāfiʿ. However, they did not mention ʿAbd al-Salām among those who narrated from him, who is Ibn Ḥarb, but they mentioned him among those who narrated from Ibn Abī Sulaym, and he is weak due to his memory, so his ḥadīth is strengthened by the one before it. And Allāh knows best. (Note): al-Mundhirī in "al-Targhīb" (3/237) did not come across this narration of al-Bukhārī for this ḥadīth, so he limited its attribution to al-Aṣbahānī alone, and based on that, he indicated its weakness! Had he reviewed this narration, he would not have done so, if Allāh wills.
