I said: This isnād [chain of transmission] consists of narrators all of whom are reliable, the narrators of Muslim, except for this al-ʿAssāl, and Abū Nuʿaym declared him trustworthy in "Akhbār Aṣbahān" (2/217), but there is a break in its chain, as Abū Ḥātim said: "Sālim ibn Abī al-Jaʿd did not meet Abū al-Dardāʾ." Al-Mundhirī (4/94) overlooked this defect, as did al-Haythamī (10/264), and they said: "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in 'al-Awsaṭ', and its narrators are the narrators of the authentic [collections]." However, the ḥadīth has supporting evidence that strengthens it, including from Anas, raised [to the Prophet] with the wording: "Perhaps a disheveled, dusty person with two worn garments, turned away from people's doors, if he swore by Allāh, He would fulfill it." It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in "al-Awsaṭ" (4/406) through the route of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Mūsá al-Taymī from Usāmah ibn Zayd from Ḥafṣ ibn ʿUbayd Allāh from Anas, raised [to the Prophet]. This isnād is good in supporting evidence; its narrators are trustworthy, except that this al-Taymī was said by al-Ḥāfiẓ: "Truthful but makes many mistakes." And among them is from Abū Hurayrah, raised [to the Prophet] with the wording: "Perhaps a disheveled person turned away at the doors, if he swore by Allāh, He would fulfill it." It was narrated by Muslim (8/36/154) through the route of al-ʿAlāʾ ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān from his father from him. He was followed by Kathīr ibn Zayd from al-Muṭṭalib ibn ʿAbd Allāh from him, raised [to the Prophet] similarly, and added: "People's eyes turn away from him." It was narrated by al-Ḥākim (4/328) who said: "Its isnād is authentic." And al-Dhahabī agreed with him
