"a man from the people of the Ṣuffah died, and they found two dinars in his cloak. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: 'Two small coins.'" Its isnād is good, and Ibn Ḥibbān authenticated it (2481 - Mawārid al-Ẓamʾān) and classified it under "Chapter on one who consumes the share of the poor while being wealthy." I said: This indicates that the ḥadīth is not to be taken in its absolute sense, but the meaning for which he classified it is not apparent. It seems to me that it applies to someone who died with a debt and had the means to repay it, as indicated by the action of the narrator of the ḥadīth, as previously mentioned in the narration of "Asad al-Ghābah." Here is another interpretation, derived from what al-Bayhaqī narrated from Ibn Rāhawayh, who said: "He only refrained from praying over him because he was from the people of the Ṣuffah, appearing to be poor with nothing, and he was from the people of the Ṣuffah. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: 'He left two small coins,' meaning for someone like him, two small coins." In "al-Fatḥ" (4/388) there is something similar. I said: This does not contradict what I mentioned. And Allāh is the grantor of success.
