"ibn ʿUmar performed tayammum at a distance of one or two miles from Medina and prayed ʿAṣr. He arrived while the sun was still high and did not repeat the prayer." ʿAbd al-Razzāq also recorded it (884) from al-Thawrī from Muḥammad and Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd with the same. al-Dāraqutnī (p. 68) and al-Bayhaqī (1/233) recorded it through another route from Muḥammad ibn ʿAjlān from Nāfiʿ with a similar narration. al-Dāraqutnī also recorded it through another route from Sufyān: Yaḥyá ibn Saʿīd informed us with the same. Mālik (1/76) and from him ʿAbd al-Razzāq (883) recorded it from Nāfiʿ with a similar narration. It is a mawqūf narration with a sound isnād, as al-Ḥākim indicated earlier. al-Bayhaqī narrated from al-Walīd ibn Muslim who said: It was said to Abū ʿAmr - meaning al-Awzāʿī -: The prayer time has come and the water is available (1) off the path; is it obligatory for me to go to it? He said: Mūsá ibn Yasār narrated to me from Nāfiʿ with a similar narration, and his wording is: "from ibn ʿUmar that he would be on a journey and the prayer time would come while the water was a throw or two away and similar to that, yet he would not go to it." And from Ḥakīm ibn Razīq from his father who said: I asked Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib about a shepherd with his sheep or a shepherd who becomes junub and there are two or three miles between him and the water? He said: "He should perform tayammum with clean earth." This is also authentic. As for what Ibn Abī Shaybah narrated in "al-Muṣannaf" (1/160): Shurayk narrated to us from Abū Isḥāq from al-Ḥārith from ʿAlī who said: "The junub should wait until the end of the time." al-Bayhaqī also recorded it through another route from Abū Isḥāq with a similar narration, and his wording is:
