Do not hasten in seeking provision, for no servant will die until they have received their last provision. So seek it gracefully: take what is lawful and leave what is unlawful. It was recorded by Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Rāzī in "Mashyakhatuh" (folio 149/1 - Collection 33), Ibn Ḥibbān in his "Ṣaḥīḥ" (1084 and 1085 - Mawārid), al-Ḥākim (2/4), and al-Bayhaqī in "al-Sunan" (5/264) through various chains from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Wahb: ʿAmr ibn al-Ḥārith informed me from Saʿīd ibn Abī Hilāl from Muḥammad ibn al-Munkadir from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. Al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic according to the criteria of the two shaykhs." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. I say: It is as they said, except for the concern of Saʿīd ibn Abī Hilāl's potential confusion, but this concern is not applicable here as the ḥadīth comes through another route. It was also recorded by Ibn Mājah (2144), al-Ḥākim, and al-Bayhaqī through two chains from Ibn Jurayj from Abū al-Zubayr from Jābir with the wording: "None of you will die until they have completed their provision, so do not hasten in seeking provision, and fear Allāh, O people, and seek it gracefully. Take what is lawful and leave what is unlawful." Al-Ḥākim said: "Authentic according to the criteria of Muslim." Al-Dhahabī agreed with him. And I say: It is as they said, for we are assured of the reliability of Abū al-Zubayr and his companion by their explicit declaration of narration in the report of Ḥajjāj ibn Muḥammad: Ibn Jurayj informed us: Abū al-Zubayr informed me that he heard Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh narrate it. It was recorded by al-Salafī in "al-Ṭuyūriyyāt" and al-Bayhaqī mentioned it
