He will say: O son of Adam! Did you not promise Me that you would not ask Me for anything else? He will say: Yes, O Lord, this is the last thing I will ask of You. And his Lord will excuse him because he sees what he cannot bear, so He will bring him closer to it. When He brings him closer, he will hear the voices of the people of Paradise, and he will say: O Lord, let me enter it! He will say: O son of Adam! What will satisfy you? Would it please you if I give you the world and as much again with it? He will say: O Lord! Are You mocking me while You are the Lord of the worlds? - Ibn Masʿūd laughed, and said: Will you not ask me why I am laughing? They said: Why are you laughing? He said: This is how the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) laughed, and they said: Why are you laughing, O Messenger of Allāh? He said: From the laughter of the Lord of the worlds when he said: Are You mocking me while You are the Lord of the worlds? - He will say: I am not mocking you, but I am able to do so
