It was narrated by Abū ʿAbd Allāh Ibn Mandah in "al-Tawḥīd" (123/2) and through his route by al-Aṣbahānī in "al-Targhīb" (739): Muḥammad ibn Yaʿqūb ibn Yūsuf informed us: Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq al-Ṣaghānī informed us: Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad ibn Saʿīd al-Anṣārī informed us: Abū Muʿāwiyah Muḥammad ibn Khāzim from al-Aʿmash from Ibrāhīm al-Taymī from al-Ḥārith ibn Suwayd from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Masʿūd in a marfūʿ manner. I said: This isnād is authentic. This Muḥammad ibn Yaʿqūb is Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Aṣamm, a trustworthy ḥāfiẓ, and the rest of the men are trustworthy, the men of Muslim. And Abū Jaʿfar Muḥammad ibn Saʿīd al-Anṣārī is the son of al-Aṣbahānī, nicknamed (Ḥamdān), and they did not mention in his biography that he was an Anṣārī. And Allāh knows best. And the ḥadīth was also extracted by al-Bayhaqī in "al-Shuʿab" (1/359 - Hind) through the route of al-Ḥākim from Abū al-ʿAbbās al-Aṣamm. And it was narrated by al-Nasāʾī in "ʿAmal al-Yawm wa-al-Laylah" (849) through another route from Muḥammad ibn Saʿīd with it.

"a man may have a rank with Allāh that he does not reach by his deeds, so Allāh continues to test him with what he dislikes until He brings him to it." It was extracted by Abū Yaʿlá in "al-Musnad" (4/1447-1448) and from him by Ibn Ḥibbān (693 - Mawārid): Abū Kurayb narrated to us, Yūnus ibn Bukayr informed us, Yaḥyá ibn Ayyūb informed us, Abū Zurʿah informed us, Abū Hurayrah said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: ... and he mentioned it. Then Abū Yaʿlá said (4/1449): ʿUqbah narrated to us, Yūnus informed us with it
