and it was also narrated by al-Ḥākim (1/344) through the route of Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Jabbār: Yūnus ibn Bukayr narrated to us with it. He said: "The isnād is authentic." al-Dhahabī refuted it by saying: "I say: Yaḥyá and Aḥmad are weak, and Yūnus is not a reliable authority." I say: The truth is that this Yūnus is moderate, so his ḥadīth is used as evidence at the level of ḥasan, and al-Dhahabī himself stated this at the end of his biography in "al-Mīzān," saying: "Muslim included Yūnus in the supporting evidences, not the primary sources, and al-Bukhārī also mentioned him as a witness, and his ḥadīth is ḥasan." Therefore, the criticism of the ḥadīth due to him is rejected. Similarly, Yaḥyá ibn Ayyūb, who is al-Bajīlī, was deemed trustworthy by the majority, and Ibn Maʿīn was inconsistent about him, sometimes deeming him trustworthy and other times weakening him, and al-Ḥāfiẓ said: "There is no harm in him." As for Aḥmad ibn ʿAbd al-Jabbār, he was followed by my teachers Abū Yaʿlá Abū Kurayb - whose name is Muḥammad ibn al-ʿAlāʾ - and ʿUqbah - who is Ibn Mukram al-Baṣrī - both of whom are trustworthy among the teachers of Muslim, so the isnād is ḥasan, and it is authentic with the following supporting evidences: the first: from Muḥammad ibn Khālid al-Sulamī from his father from his grandfather - who was a Companion - that he went out to visit a man from his brothers, and he heard of his illness, he said: so he entered upon him and said: I came to you as a visitor, a caretaker, and a bearer of good news! He said: How did you combine all of this? He said: I went out intending to visit you, and I heard of your illness, so it became a caretaking visit, and I bring you good news of something I heard from the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) who said: "If a servant has a rank predestined for him by Allāh that he has not reached through his deeds, Allāh tests him in his body, or his wealth, or his children, then grants him patience until He brings him to the rank that was predestined for him."
