the narration of Ayyūb from Abū Rajāʾ al-ʿAṭṭāridī who said: I heard Ibn ʿAbbās say: Muḥammad (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: and he mentioned it. Ḥammād ibn Najīḥ also followed him, having heard it from Abū Rajāʾ with the same wording. It was extracted by Aḥmad (1/234) and al-Sahmī in "Tārīkh Jurjān" (47), and Ṣakhr ibn Juwayriyyah was mentioned alongside Ḥammād with the wording: "the needy" instead of "the poor," and the meaning is the same, and it has a supporting narration as will be mentioned shortly. It was also narrated by al-Bukhārī (6541), al-Tirmidhī (2606), Ibn Ḥibbān (7412 - al-Iḥsān), and Aḥmad (4/429) through the route of ʿAwf ibn Abī Jamīlah from Abū Rajāʾ from ʿImrān in a marfūʿ form with it. al-Tirmidhī said: "A ḥadīth that is ḥasan ṣaḥīḥ, and thus ʿAwf says: from Abū Rajāʾ from ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn, and Ayyūb says: from Abū Rajāʾ from Ibn ʿAbbās. Both isnāds have no criticism, and it is possible that Abū Rajāʾ heard from both of them, and others besides ʿAwf have also narrated this ḥadīth: from Abū Rajāʾ from ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn." I say: And this is the preferred view, that Abū Rajāʾ narrates it from Ibn ʿAbbās and from ʿImrān, for he is a trustworthy authority, and he was followed by Muṭarrif from ʿImrān with Aḥmad (4/443). The ḥadīth is supported by what Abū ʿUthmān narrated from Usāmah ibn Zayd who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "I stood at the gate of Paradise, and I saw that the majority of those who entered it were the needy, while the wealthy were held back, except for the companions of the Fire, who were commanded to the Fire, and I stood at the gate of the Fire, and I saw that the majority of those who entered it were women."
