"Shall I not inform you of a quicker return and a greater reward than this expedition? A man who performs ablution well in his house, then goes to the mosque and prays the morning prayer, then follows it with the forenoon prayer, has achieved a quicker return and a greater reward." This was recorded by Abū Yaʿlá in "his Musnad" (4/1530-1531) and through his route by Ibn Ḥibbān (629): Abū Bakr ibn Abī Shaybah narrated to us, Ḥātim ibn Ismāʿīl narrated to us from Ḥumayd ibn Ṣakhr from al-Maqburī from Abū Hurayrah who said: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) sent an expedition, and they achieved a great reward and a quick return. A man said: O Messenger of Allāh! We have not seen a people return quicker or achieve a greater reward than this expedition. He said: and he mentioned it. Ibn ʿAdī also recorded it in "al-Kāmil" (2/275) through two other routes from Ḥātim. I say: This isnād is good, and its men are trustworthy, the men of Muslim, with a weakness in Ḥumayd ibn Ṣakhr that does not harm his ḥadīth. Al-Mundhirī said (1/235): "Abū Yaʿlá narrated it, and the men of its isnād are the men of the authentic collections." There is a supporting narration from ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu). It was recorded by al-Tirmidhī and others, and it has a weakness which I clarified in "al-Taʿlīq al-Raghīb" (1/166), but it is strengthened by this ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah. Al-Bazzār also narrated it in "his Musnad" (p. 300) through the route of Zayd ibn al-Ḥabbāb: Ḥumayd, the client of Banū ʿAbdah (perhaps: Ibn ʿAlqamah) narrated to me from ʿAṭāʾ ibn Abī Rabāḥ from him.
