in a narration by Ibn Abī al-Dunyā from the route of ʿUbayd Allāh ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Wahb: I heard Abū Hurayrah say: The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: "No believer is pricked by a thorn in this world and seeks its reward except that it will expiate some of his sins on the Day of Resurrection." I said: And this ʿUbayd Allāh, Aḥmad said: "His ḥadīths are objectionable, and neither he nor his father is known." However, it has a corroborating narration from Jābir, elevated [to the Prophet] with the wording: "No believing man or woman, nor Muslim man or woman, falls ill with an illness except that Allāh expiates some of their sins." It was recorded by al-Bukhārī in "al-Adab al-Mufrad" (508), Ibn Abī al-Dunyā (pages 87-88), and al-Bazzār (758 - Kashf) with a sound isnād, its narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of Muslim except for his teacher Isḥāq ibn Ismāʿīl, who is a trustworthy teacher of Abū Dāwūd, and he was followed up by Aḥmad (3/386 and 400) with the wording: "Allāh removes." It was also recorded by Abū Yaʿlá (2/611). And likewise, it was recorded by Aḥmad (3/346) from the route of Abū al-Zubayr from Jābir with it, except that he said: "He removes his sin." He did not say: "from." And it was also narrated by Ibn Ḥibbān (696) from this route, and he added: "just as a leaf falls from a tree." And Abū al-Zubayr is known for tadlīs.
