- "If you wish, I can pray to Allāh for you and He will heal you, or if you wish, you can be patient and there will be no reckoning upon you." It was recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān (708 - Mawārid), al-Bazzār (83 - Zawāʾid), and al-Aṣbahānī in "al-Targhīb" (59/1) and al-Baghawī in "Sharḥ al-Sunnah" (no. 1424) through various chains from Muḥammad ibn ʿAmr from Abū Salamah from Abū Hurayrah who said: A woman came to the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) afflicted with a mental disorder, and she said: O Messenger of Allāh! Pray to Allāh to heal me. He said: and mentioned it. She said: Rather, I will be patient and there will be no reckoning upon me. I said: And this is a good isnād. And al-Ḥāfiẓ was silent about it (10/115). It has a corroborating narration from Ibn ʿAbbās with a similar meaning, and it adds: "She said: I become exposed, so pray to Allāh for me that I do not become exposed. So he prayed for her." It was recorded by the two Shaykhs and others like Ibn Abī al-Dunyā in "al-Maraḍ wa-al-Kaffārāt" (87/1) and al-Baghawī in "Sharḥ al-Sunnah" (1423). There is another route for the ḥadīth from Abū Hurayrah who said: Fever came to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) and said: Send me to the most beloved of your family to you, so he sent it to the Anṣār, and it remained with them for six days and nights, and it became severe upon them, so he came to them in their homes, and they complained about it to him, so the Prophet ﷺ began entering house by house, praying for their recovery. When he returned, a woman from among them followed him and said: By the One who sent you with the truth, I am from the Anṣār, and my father is from the Anṣār, so pray to Allāh for me as you prayed for the Anṣār. He said: "As you wish, if you wish, I can pray to Allāh to heal you, or if you wish, you can be patient and you will have Paradise."
