- "When Allāh tests a servant with a trial while he is on a path he dislikes, Allāh makes that trial an expiation and purification for him, as long as he does not seek relief from the trial from other than Allāh, or supplicate to others besides Allāh to remove it." It was recorded by Ibn Abī al-Dunyā in "al-Kaffārāt" (69/2): Yaʿqūb ibn ʿUbayd narrated to us, Hishām ibn ʿAmmār informed us, Yaḥyá ibn Ḥamzah informed us, al-Ḥakam ibn ʿAbd Allāh heard from al-Muṭṭalib ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḥanṭab al-Makhzūmī narrating: that he heard Abū Hurayrah narrating, saying: I visited Umm ʿAbd Allāh bint Abī Dhubāb to check on her due to an ailment, and she said: O Abū Hurayrah! I visited Umm Salamah to check on her due to an ailment, and I noticed a sore on her hand, and she said: I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: and he mentioned it. I said: And this isnād is good, if Allāh wills, its narrators are trustworthy, the men of al-Bukhārī, with a weakness in Hishām ibn ʿAmmār except for three of them: the first: Umm ʿAbd Allāh bint Abī Dhubāb, for I did not find anyone who translated her, and al-Ḥāfiẓ Ibn Ḥajar mentioned in the entry (Dhubāb) from "al-Tabsīr" (2/578) a group not including her, among them Saʿd ibn Abī Dhubāb, who is a Companion, and he has a ḥadīth in "Musnad Aḥmad" (4/79) and others, so it appears she is his sister, and she is a Companion, and this is supported by Abū Hurayrah's narration from her. The second: al-Ḥakam ibn ʿAbd Allāh, it appears he is the son of al-Muṭṭalib ibn ʿAbd Allāh ibn Ḥanṭab al-Makhzūmī, his teacher in this isnād, attributed to his nearest grandfather. Al-Dhahabī said: "Al-Dāraqutnī said: He is considered. And Abū Muḥammad ibn Ḥazm said: His condition is unknown." And it was added in "al-Lisān": "that a group narrated from him, among them: his brother ʿAbd al-ʿAzīz, and Muḥammad ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-Shaʿīthī,
