- "You have done well, [leave it until it recovers]." It was narrated by Muslim (5/125), al-Tirmidhī (1441), Ibn al-Jārūd (816), al-Bayhaqī (8/229), and al-Ṭayālisī (1/300 - his arrangement), and from him by Aḥmad (1/156), as well as Abū Yaʿlá (Q 23/1 - microfilm 2) from al-Suddī, from Saʿd ibn ʿUbādah, from Abū ʿAbd al-Raḥmān who said: ʿAlī delivered a sermon and said: "O people! Establish the ḥadd on your slaves, whether they are married or not. A slave woman of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) committed adultery, and he ordered me to flog her. She was recently postpartum, and I feared that if I flogged her, I would kill her. I mentioned this to the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam), and he said: [the same statement]." The addition is from Muslim. It has corroboration from another route that will be mentioned. Al-Tirmidhī said: "This is a good and authentic ḥadīth. Al-Suddī's name is Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAbd al-Raḥmān, and he is from the Tābiʿīn. He heard from Anas ibn Mālik and saw Ḥusayn ibn ʿAlī ibn Abī Ṭālib (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu)." I say: The other route is from ʿAbd al-Aʿlá ibn ʿĀmir, from Abū Jamīlah, from ʿAlī with a similar wording: "When her blood dries, flog her and establish the ḥudūd on those whom your right hands possess." It was narrated by Abū Dāwūd (2/239), al-Bayhaqī, al-Ṭayālisī, and Aḥmad (1/89, 136, 145). I say: ʿAbd al-Aʿlá ibn ʿĀmir — who is al-Thuʿlabī — is weak.
