"When he supplicated (meaning: during the prayer for rain), he would turn the palms of his hands towards his face." It was recorded by Abū Yaʿlá in "his Musnad" (Q 167/2 - Maktab 2): Zuhayr narrated to us, Yazīd ibn Hārūn narrated to us, Ḥammād ibn Salamah informed us from Thābit from Anas ibn Mālik with an elevated chain. I say: This isnād is authentic according to the conditions of Muslim, and he has also recorded it (3/24) similarly through the route of al-Ḥasan ibn Mūsá, Ḥammād ibn Salamah narrated to us with the wording: "The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) prayed for rain and pointed the backs of his hands towards the sky." It was also recorded by Aḥmad (3/153): Ḥasan ibn Mūsá narrated to us with it. Then he recorded it (3/241) from Muʾammal: Ḥammād narrated to us with it. Then he said (3/271): ʿAffān narrated to us with the wording: "The people said: O Messenger of Allāh! Wealth has perished, and we are in drought, wealth has perished, so pray for rain for us. He stood on Friday while on the pulpit, and he prayed for rain - Ḥammād described - and he extended his hands at the level of his chest, with the palms of his hands facing the ground, and there was not a cloud in the sky. He did not leave until the strong young man was concerned about returning to his family, and we were rained upon until the next Friday. They said: O Messenger of Allāh! The buildings have been destroyed, and the travelers have been cut off, pray to Allāh to remove it from us. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) laughed and said: O Allāh, around us and not upon us. So it cleared until the city was as if it were in a crown." It was also recorded by Abū Yaʿlá (Q 166/2): Zuhayr narrated to us, ʿAffān narrated to us with it. And it was recorded by Abū Dāwūd from another route from ʿAffān with only the relevant part of it. ʿUmar ibn Nabhān followed him from Qatādah from Anas with it in a shortened form with the wording:
