- "By Allāh, O ʿĀʾishah! If I wished, Allāh would make the mountains of gold and silver flow with me." It was recorded by Ibn Saʿd in "al-Ṭabaqāt" (1/465) and Abū al-Shaykh in "Akhlaq al-Nabī ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam" (pp. 166-167) through the chain of ʿAbbād ibn ʿAbbād al-Muhallabī from Mujālid from al-Shaʿbī from Masrūq from ʿĀʾishah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhā) who said: A woman from the Anṣār entered upon me and saw the bedding of the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ, which was a folded cloak. She left and sent a mattress stuffed with wool to him. The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ entered upon me and said: What is this? I said: O Messenger of Allāh! So-and-so, the Anṣārī woman, entered upon me and saw your bedding, so she left and sent this. He said: Return it. I did not return it, and I liked having it in my house until he said that three times, then he said: ... and he mentioned it. Al-Bayhaqī also recorded it from this route as mentioned in "al-Targhīb" (4/115) and indicated its strengthening. I said: And this isnād's narrators are trustworthy, the narrators of the two Shaykhs except for Mujālid—who is Ibn Saʿīd—and he is weak. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said: "He is not strong." I said: But I found a supporting narration that is acceptable, narrated by Abū Maʿshar from Saʿīd from ʿĀʾishah, who said: The Messenger of Allāh ﷺ said: "O ʿĀʾishah! If I wished, the mountains of gold would walk with me. An angel came to me, whose girdle was equal to the Kaʿbah, and said: Your Lord sends you greetings of peace and says to you: If you wish, [you can be] a prophet-servant or a prophet-king." He said: I looked at Jibrīl, and he gestured to me to humble myself. He said: So I said: A prophet-servant. He said: After that, the Messenger of Allāh ﷺ would not eat reclining, saying: I eat as a servant eats and sit as a servant sits."
