among the teachers of Imām al-Shāfiʿī, so the ḥadīth with this chain and the one before it is ḥasan in my view, especially since the ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Talkhīṣ" (2/263) regarding the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿUmar: "It was narrated by al-Bazzār with a ḥasan isnād, and by al-Ḥākim and al-Bayhaqī." I said: I did not see it in "al-Mustadrak" by al-Ḥākim, but al-Bayhaqī narrated it through his route. It has another supporting narration, reported by Bakr ibn Bakkār: Ibrāhīm ibn Yazīd informed us, Sulaymān al-Aḥwal informed us from ʿAmr ibn Shuʿayb from his father from his grandfather: "that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) permitted the shepherds to throw at night and at any hour of the day they wished." It was extracted by al-Dāraqutnī (p. 279) and the commentator on it said: "Ibn al-Qaṭṭān said: And this Ibrāhīm ibn Yazīd, if he is al-Khuzāʾī, he is weak, and if he is someone else, it is not known who he is. And Bakr ibn Bakkār, Ibn Maʿīn said about him: He is not strong." The ḥāfiẓ said: "And its isnād is weak." I said: Observations have appeared to me regarding the words of the ḥāfiẓ and others, and it is useful to clarify them: Firstly, his statement: "It was narrated by al-Bazzār with a ḥasan isnād and ..." gives the impression that it is with al-Bazzār from a route other than that of Muslim ibn Khālid, which is in the route of al-Bayhaqī from al-Ḥākim, and this is not the case, for al-Zaylaʿī in "Naṣb al-Rāyah" (3/86) attributed it to al-Bazzār alone in his "Musnad" from the same route, and with it al-Haythamī criticized it in "al-Majmaʿ" (3/260), saying: "And in it is Muslim ibn Khālid al-Zanjī, who is weak though he was declared reliable." Secondly, the hesitation of Ibn al-Qaṭṭān regarding Ibrāhīm ibn Yazīd, whether he is al-Khuzāʾī or someone else? The ḥāfiẓ answered this in "al-Lisān" by saying: "I said: He is al-Khuzāʾī, without doubt, as it appears to me. And Allāh knows best."
