and Ibn ʿAsākir in "al-Tārīkh" (12/260/2), all of them from Hudbah with it. I said: This is a weak isnād; all its narrators are trustworthy except for this Suhayl, who is weak as mentioned in "al-Taqrīb." The majority, including al-Bukhārī, have declared him weak, and Ibn Ḥibbān said: "He narrates from trustworthy narrators what does not resemble the ḥadīth of reliable narrators." Al-Haythamī said about the ḥadīth (10/211): "It was narrated by Abū Yaʿlá and al-Ṭabarānī in 'al-Awsaṭ,' and in it is Suhayl ibn Abī Ḥazm, who has been declared trustworthy despite his weakness, and the rest of its narrators are those of the authentic collections." I said: No one declared him trustworthy except al-ʿAjlī, and his endorsement is weak. Ibn Maʿīn said in one narration: "Ṣāliḥ." The majority have declared him weak as previously mentioned, including Ibn Maʿīn in another narration about him. I said: Despite the weakness of its isnād, the ḥadīth is authentic in its text according to me, as its first part is supported by many verses in the Noble Qurʾān, such as His saying: *"Allāh does not break His promise"* (1) and His saying: *"and We overlook their evil deeds [and admit them] among the companions of Paradise, [a promise of] truth which they had been promised"* (2). As for the second part, it is supported by the ḥadīth of ʿUbādah ibn al-Ṣāmit, raised [to the Prophet], with the wording: "... and whoever worships Allāh ... and hears and disobeys, then Allāh, the Exalted, has the choice regarding him; if He wills, He will have mercy on him, and if He wills, He will punish him." It was narrated by Aḥmad and others with a good isnād as I have verified in "Takhrīj al-Sunnah" (968), and it has other routes in "al-Ṣaḥīḥayn" and others with similar wording. So refer to the mentioned takhrīj (961-967).
