this, and perhaps the prohibition is due to wearing a garment dyed intensely red because it resembles the disbelievers, as in the ḥadīth: "Indeed, this is from the clothing of the disbelievers, so do not wear it." Narrated by Muslim, and its sourcing was previously mentioned under number (1704). Or because it is from the clothing of women, as indicated by another ḥadīth with him (6/144) from ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAmr who said: "The Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) saw me wearing two dyed garments and said: Did your mother command you to do this? I said: Shall I wash them? He said: Rather, burn them." And Allāh knows best.

- "He prohibited the use of the purple saddlecloth." It was narrated by al-Tirmidhī (2789) from al-Ḥasan from ʿImrān ibn Ḥuṣayn as a marfūʿ ḥadīth, and he said: "A good and rare ḥadīth." I said: Its narrators are trustworthy, but al-Ḥasan is a mudallis, and he narrated it with ʿanʿanah. It has a corroborating narration from the ḥadīth of ʿAlī who said: "He prohibited the use of the purple saddlecloth." Narrated by Abū Dāwūd (2/175) and al-Nasāʾī (2/288) from Hishām from Muḥammad from ʿUbaydah from him. I said: And this isnād is authentic. It was also narrated by Abū Dāwūd and al-Nasāʾī (2/287) and Ibn Mājah (3654) from Abū Isḥāq from Hubayrah from ʿAlī who said: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) prohibited the gold ring and wearing silk brocade and the red saddlecloth."
