"He forbade eating the animal that is tied and shot with arrows." Narrated by al-Tirmidhī (1473) from Abū Ayyūb al-Ifriqī from Ṣafwān ibn Sulaym from Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib from Abū al-Dardāʾ as a marfūʿ ḥadīth. Al-Tirmidhī said: "This is a strange ḥadīth." Ibn Abī Ḥātim said in "al-ʿIlal" (2/20) from his father: "Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib from Abū al-Dardāʾ is not established." I say: All its narrators are trustworthy, narrators of al-Bukhārī and Muslim, except for Abū Ayyūb al-Ifriqī, whose name is ʿAbd Allāh ibn ʿAlī ibn al-Azraq. Al-Ḥāfiẓ said: "Truthful but makes mistakes." I say: His ḥadīth can be considered ḥasan, rather it is ḥasan, as I have found another route for it. Imām Aḥmad (6/445) said: ʿAlī ibn ʿĀṣim narrated to us, Sahl ibn Abī Ṣāliḥ narrated to us from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Yazīd al-Saʿdī who said: "Some people from my tribe ordered me to ask Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib about a spear they sharpen and fix in the ground, and in the morning it has killed a hyena. Do you consider it a valid slaughter? He said: I sat with Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib, and there was an old man with white hair and beard from the people of Shām with him, so I asked about that. He said to me: And do you eat the hyena? I said: I have never eaten it, but some people from my tribe do eat it. He said: Its consumption is not permissible. He said: The old man said: O ʿAbd Allāh! Shall I not narrate to you a ḥadīth I heard from Abū al-Dardāʾ, who narrated it from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam)? I said: Yes. He said: I heard Abū al-Dardāʾ say: "The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) forbade every animal that snatches, every animal that steals, and every predator with fangs." He said: Saʿīd ibn al-Musayyib said: He has spoken the truth."
