naturally applies to those who had long hair as was the custom of the Arabs in the past, and in some countries recently. He forbade that and commanded it to be spread out so that the prostration would be more complete, as is derived from "al-Nihāyah" and other sources. See "Ṣifat al-Ṣalāh" (p. 151 - fifth edition).

"When he sneezed, he praised Allāh, and it was said to him: 'May Allāh have mercy on you,' and he would say: 'May Allāh guide you and rectify your affairs.'" It was narrated by Aḥmad (1/204) from Ibn Lahīʿah from Abū al-Aswad who said: I heard ʿUbayd ibn Umm Kilāb from ʿAbd Allāh ibn Jaʿfar Dhū al-Janāḥayn in a marfūʿ form. I say: This isnād is weak, as ʿUbayd ibn Umm Kilāb is unknown, as mentioned in "Taʿjīl al-Manfaʿah." And Ibn Lahīʿah has poor memory. Al-Haythamī said about the ḥadīth (8/56): "It was narrated by Aḥmad and al-Ṭabarānī, and in it is Ibn Lahīʿah, who is a good narrator despite his weakness, and the rest of its narrators are trustworthy." Thus he said. But the ḥadīth has been authenticated from his teaching (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) to his ummah from the ḥadīth of Abū Hurayrah and others, so see "al-Irwāʾ" (772). Then I found a supporting narration from Isrāʾīl from Asbāṭ ibn ʿAzrah from Jaʿfar ibn Abī Waḥshīyah from Mujāhid from Ibn ʿUmar who said: "We were sitting with the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) when he sneezed, praised Allāh, and they said: 'May Allāh have mercy on you,' and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: 'May Allāh guide you and rectify your affairs.'"
