was discussing with ʿUmar ibn al-Khaṭṭāb one day about charity, and ʿUmar said: Did you not hear the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) when he mentioned the embezzlement of charity, that whoever embezzles from it...? He said: ʿAbd Allāh ibn Anīs replied: Indeed. I said: And this isnād is weak, as this Ibn al-Ḥabbāb is only known through this narration, and no one other than Ibn Ḥibbān has authenticated him. However, the ḥadīth is authentic, as it has a detailed corroborating report from Abū Hurayrah (raḍiya Allāhu ʿanhu) in a marfūʿ form. It was recorded by the two Shaykhs and others; you can see it in "al-Targhīb" (2/187).

"Whoever says: There is no deity but Allāh (sincerely) will enter Paradise." It was recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān (7) from Muḥarrar ibn Qaʿnab al-Bāhilī, who narrated to us from Rabāḥ ibn ʿUbaydah, from Dhakwān al-Sammān, from Jābir ibn ʿAbd Allāh in a marfūʿ form without the addition, and there is a story in it. I said: Its isnād is authentic, and Muḥarrar is with two neglected rāʾs, and in the original it appeared as (Muḥriz) with a neglected then a dotted letter, which is a scribal error. He was authenticated by Abū Zurʿah, and Aḥmad said: "There is no harm in him." Then it was recorded by Ibn Ḥibbān (4), Aḥmad (5/236), and Abū Nuʿaym (7/312) through the route of Sufyān ibn ʿUyaynah, from ʿAmr ibn Dīnār, from Jābir: "When Muʿādh was on his deathbed, he said, 'Uncover the canopy of the tent for me, I heard the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) say: Whoever testifies that there is no deity but Allāh sincerely from his heart will enter Paradise.'" And Aḥmad's isnād is three-tiered, and it is authentic according to the criteria of the two Shaykhs.
