al-Tirmidhī said: "A strange ḥadīth, we do not know it except from this route, and the narration of Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh from the people of al-Shām is more reliable, and he has from the people of al-Ḥijāz and Iraq some denounced narrations." I said: Aḥmad, Ibn Maʿīn, al-Bukhārī, and others have deemed him reliable in his narration from the people of al-Shām, and this is among them, as Baḥīr ibn Saʿd is a trustworthy Shāmī, as are the rest of the narrators, so the chain is authentic. I do not know why al-Tirmidhī only remarked on its strangeness and did not at least consider it good. Then I saw al-Mundhirī in "al-Targhīb" (3/78) quoting al-Tirmidhī as saying about it: "A good ḥadīth."
