Marwān al-Ḥadhdhāʾ al-Ahwāzī said: Sulaym ibn Akhḍar narrated to us from Saʿīr ibn al-Khams from Abū Ghālib from Abū Umāmah in a marfūʿ manner. I said: And this isnād is good, its men are trustworthy, except that I did not find a biography for Aḥmad ibn Shihāb. However, it seems he was not alone in this, for al-Haythamī said (3/21): "It was narrated by al-Ṭabarānī in 'al-Kabīr', and in it is Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Shāmī, who narrated from Abū Khālid, and I did not find a biography for him." Then "al-Muʿjam al-Kabīr" by al-Ṭabarānī was printed, and I found in it the ḥadīth from two paths from Abū Ghālib: the first is from the aforementioned path of Saʿīr, and it revealed to me an error in the name of Aḥmad al-Ahwāzī's father: (Shihāb), the correct name is: (Sahl), as al-Ṭabarānī said (8/337/8077): Aḥmad ibn Sahl ibn Ayyūb al-Ahwāzī narrated to us with it. And this Aḥmad ibn Sahl has a biography in "al-Lisān", and no one has spoken about him, but he mentioned a ḥadīth for him in which he said: "And this is a rejected report, and the isnād is fabricated..." Then he mentioned that he has two very strange ḥadīths, one of them in "al-Muʿjam al-Ṣaghīr" by al-Ṭabarānī. I said: And it is also in "al-Awsaṭ" (1/110/2/2220) and he has two other ḥadīths in it (2218 - 2219). And his first ḥadīth is extracted in "al-Rawḍ" (583). The other path in "al-Kabīr" (8078) is from the path of Muʿtamir ibn Sulaymān from Abū ʿAbd Allāh al-Shāmī from Abū Ghālib with it.
