I said: And this isnād is very weak; all its men are trustworthy except for this Ḍirār, who is abandoned in ḥadīth as stated by al-Bukhārī and al-Nasāʾī, and others have also weakened him. However, Abū Ḥātim said about him: "Truthful, a person of the Quran and obligations, his ḥadīth is written but not used as evidence. He narrated a ḥadīth from Muʿtamir from his father from al-Ḥasan from Anas from the Prophet (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) regarding the virtue of some Companions, which is rejected by those knowledgeable in ḥadīth." I said: And the summarization of that by the ḥāfiẓ is: "Truthful, but with errors." It is not hidden what leniency there is in this, and perhaps al-Munāwī was deceived by it when he said in "al-Taysīr": "And its isnād is acceptable." However, he was not alone in narrating it, for the ḥāfiẓ said in "al-Talkhīṣ" (4/165): "It was narrated by Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim (meaning in 'al-Jihād') and al-Ṭabarānī from the ḥadīth of Ibn ʿAbbās, and the isnād of Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim is acceptable." I said: And perhaps this narration of Ibn Abī ʿĀṣim is from the path narrated by Abū Yaʿlá in "Musnad" (4/303/2413), and from him al-Ḍiyāʾ in "al-Mukhtārah" (64/24/2) with his authentic isnād from Thawr ibn Zayd from Isḥāq ibn Jābir from ʿIkrimah from Ibn ʿAbbās with it. And al-Ḍiyāʾ said: "Isḥāq ibn Jābir al-ʿAdanī, Ibn Abī Ḥātim did not mention him in (his book)." I said: Indeed, he did mention him, but he said: "Isḥāq ibn ʿAbd Allāh al-ʿAdanī, he is the one called Isḥāq ibn Jābir." So it seems Jābir is his grandfather. And thus al-Bukhārī mentioned him (1/1/397) attributed to his father ʿAbd Allāh. As for Ibn Ḥibbān, he mentioned him in "al-Thiqāt" (8/107) attributed to his grandfather with the narration of ʿAbd Allāh ibn Nāfiʿ al-Ṣāʾigh from him. Two trustworthy narrators have narrated from him: this one, and Thawr ibn Zayd, so perhaps for this reason the ḥāfiẓ said:
قلت: وهذا إسناد ضعيف جدا، رجاله كلهم ثقات غير ضرار هذا، فهو متروك الحديث كما قال البخاري والنسائي، وضعفه غيرهما، إلا أن أبا حاتم قال فيه: " صدوق، صاحب قرآن وفرائض، يكتب حديثه ولا يحتج به، روى حديثا عن معتمر عن أبيه عن الحسن عن أنس عن النبي ﷺ في فضيلة بعض الصحابة ينكرها أهل المعرفة بالحديث ". قلت: ولخص ذلك الحافظ بقوله: " صدوق، له أوهام ". ولا يخفى ما فيه من التساهل، ولعل المناوي اغتر به حين قال في " التيسير ": " وإسناده لا بأس به ". لكنه لم يتفرد به، فقد قال الحافظ في " التلخيص " (٤ / ١٦٥) : " رواه ابن أبي عاصم (يعني في " الجهاد ") ، والطبراني من حديث ابن عباس، وإسناد ابن أبي عاصم لا بأس به ". قلت: ولعل رواية ابن أبي عاصم هذه من الطريق التي رواها أبو يعلى في " مسنده" (٤ / ٣٠٣ / ٢٤١٣) ، وعنه الضياء في " المختارة " (٦٤ / ٢٤ / ٢) بسنده الصحيح عن ثور بن زيد عن إسحاق بن جابر عن عكرمة عن ابن عباس به. وقال الضياء: " إسحاق بن جابر العدني، لم يذكره ابن أبي حاتم في (كتابه) ". قلت: بلى قد ذكره، لكنه قال: " إسحاق بن عبد الله العدني، هو الذي يقال له إسحاق بن جابر ". فكأن جابرا جده. وهكذا ذكره البخاري (١ / ١ / ٣٩٧) منسوبا لأبيه عبد الله. وأما ابن حبان فذكره في " الثقات " (٨ / ١٠٧) منسوبا لجده برواية عبد الله بن نافع الصائغ عنه. فقد روى عنه ثقتان: هذا، وثور بن زيد، فلعله لذلك قال الحافظ:
