Ibn ʿAbbās said: I entered upon my aunt Maymūnah and Khālid ibn al-Walīd, and Maymūnah said: O Messenger of Allāh! Would you like me to feed you from what my brother gifted me from the desert? So she brought two roasted lizards on a palm stalk, and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said: Eat, for it is not from my people's food; I find myself disliking it. Ibn ʿAbbās and Khālid ate from it, but Maymūnah said: I do not eat from food that the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) did not eat from. Then the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) asked for a drink, and he was brought a vessel of milk. He drank, and on his right was Ibn ʿAbbās and on his left was Khālid ibn al-Walīd. The Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) said to Ibn ʿAbbās: Do you permit me to give Khālid a drink? Ibn ʿAbbās said: I do not like to give preference to anyone over myself with the leftover of the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam). So Ibn ʿAbbās took it and drank, and Khālid drank, and the Messenger of Allāh (ṣallá Allāhu ʿalayhi wa-sallam) mentioned the ḥadīth. I said: And his teacher Muḥammad ibn Isḥāq is Ibn ʿAmr ibn ʿUmar Abū al-Ḥasan al-Qurashī, the muʾadhdhin known as Ibn al-Ḥarīṣ—thus in "al-Tārīkh" with a rāʾ—son-in-law of Hishām ibn ʿAmmār. Ibn ʿAsākir documented him (15/31/1-2) through the narration of a group of trustworthy narrators about him, including Abū al-Ḥasan ibn Jawṣā and al-Ṭabarānī and others. He died in the year 288, and no criticism or commendation was mentioned about him. Those above him are trustworthy from the men of "al-Tahdhīb," if Ibn Ziyād is Muḥammad al-Alhānī. But if it is ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ziyād ibn Anʿam al-ʾIfrīqī, then there is weakness in his memory, so someone like him is used for supporting evidence, especially since he is paired with Ibn Jurayj. And if it were not for this—meaning Ibn Jurayj—being a mudallis, and he narrated it with ʿanʿanah, the proof by him alone would be established, if not for Ibn ʿAyyāsh—who is Ismāʿīl al-Ḥimṣī—being weak outside of the Syrians, and Ibn Jurayj is Makkan, and ʿAbd al-Raḥmān ibn Ziyād is African, unlike al-Alhānī who is Syrian. If he is the one intended by this isnād, then Ibn ʿAyyāsh is a proof. In summary, it is at the very least suitable for supporting evidence due to the mention of Ibn Ziyād in it, if he is the African. Otherwise, it is a proof in itself if he is al-Alhānī, as Ibn Mājah has included it in "Sunan" (2/314): Ḥaddathanā Hishām ibn ʿAmmār, Ḥaddathanā Ismāʿīl ibn ʿAyyāsh, Ḥaddathanā Ibn Jurayj
